About Us: Your trusted clinical psychologists and psychotherapists in California

Our experienced team of clinicians are here to help you navigate life's challenges with personalized and effective therapy solutions.

Dr. Jose Guerra, Founded in 2011, Inclusive Psychological Services began as a solo practice with a mission to make therapy accessible to those who need it most. Inspired by his personal experiences in therapy and the challenges of finding affordable, bilingual care, Jose started this practice while balancing full-time work, studies, and a part-time private practice. Recognizing the barriers that minority communities often face in accessing mental health services, he was driven to create a space where therapy is both inclusive and accessible. In 2022, the practice expanded into a group setting, allowing us to broaden our reach and continue offering comprehensive mental health services.

Our practice is deeply rooted in the principles of liberation psychology and social justice, which were integral to Jose's doctoral training. These principles guide our approach, ensuring that we address not only the psychological needs of our clients but also the broader social factors impacting their well-being. At Inclusive Psychological Services, we prioritize personalized care by maintaining a low therapist caseload, allowing us to stay closely connected to our client's needs. As a small, community-focused business, we are proud to offer bilingual and bicultural services, and we accept a variety of insurance plans, including Medi-Cal, to remove financial barriers to care.

My journey into the field of therapy began with my own transformative experience as a client. While working full-time and attending school full-time, I started a private practice on the side. I was fortunate to find a Latina therapist who generously reduced her fee, allowing me to work on myself and truly understand the value of therapy. I quickly realized that many therapists in private practice don't accept insurance, creating significant barriers for those with fewer resources. Those who did accept insurance, including Medi-Cal, often worked for county or community health clinics with long waitlists, especially for those needing bilingual services.

Over the years, I became increasingly frustrated with the focus on paperwork and census counts in community mental health settings.

I wanted to spend more time doing what I love—working directly with clients. While I’m grateful for the experience I gained in community mental health, I was even more thankful to transition into full-time solo practice. My goal has always been to normalize therapy for minority groups, and establishing my own practice allowed me to reach those who might otherwise struggle to access care. I’m passionate about making therapy and specialties like sex therapy and evidence-based, short-term interventions more accessible.

During my doctoral program, I discovered liberation psychology, which is deeply rooted in social justice principles. This was the missing piece for me—integrating psychology with social justice has profoundly influenced my practice and was a key factor in my decision to expand my services.

As the son of immigrant Mexican parents and the first in my family to pursue higher education, I’ve always been driven by values of hard work and giving back. With over 16 years of clinical experience, primarily gained in community mental health agencies contracted with the county, I’ve worked extensively with children, adolescents, and families in underserved, monolingual communities. My work has involved providing therapy in various settings, including schools, homes, and communities, and collaborating with government systems like the Department of Probation, the Department of Children and Family Services, and school districts. I’ve also conducted numerous assessments and evaluations, including immigration psychological evaluations.

In addition to my clinical work, I’ve found great fulfillment in guiding new clinicians as a clinical supervisor. I also teach psychology-related courses as an adjunct professor at National University and California State University, Northridge, where I instruct clinical practicum and internship courses for aspiring therapists.

I’m proud to have successfully published my research in a professional journal, including a qualitative study that explores the experiences of immigrant Latinas, violence, and the mental health care available to them. My journey from case manager to therapist has been fueled by my passion for listening and helping others, and I’m committed to continuing this work to make therapy accessible to all.
